Schools play a crucial role in supporting students' emotional wellbeing, especially when they encounter loss. This page offers comprehensive grief resources designed specifically for educational settings. Whether you're a teacher, counselor, administrator, or staff member, you'll find tools, best practices, and guidance to help you create a supportive environment for students navigating grief. Our resources are aimed at fostering resilience, understanding, and open communication so that every student feels cared for and understood during their time of loss.
Grief Care Network is honored to partner with New York Life Foundation to bring the Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative (GSSI) to the Chicagoland area.
Through the GSSI, a school or youth-serving nonprofit can receive a $500 grant:
Hosting a brief 30–45 minute virtual or in-person presentation (for at least five staff members).
Gain access to free tools and resources from GrievingStudents.org.
Increase awareness of grief and review relevant school policies and supports..
